Knowlton Parish Council
Wimborne St Giles is a parish within the group parish of Knowlton with an electorate of 1310 or 710 households represented by 10 councillors.
Knowlton Parish Council was formed in November 1973 by combining the Parish Meetings of Wimborne St Giles, Woodlands, Chalbury and Horton and takes its name from the ancient settlement at Knowlton of which all that is left now is the ruined Saxon Church which is surrounded by prehistoric earthworks. The Parish consists mostly of farmland and woods with small settlements.
Parish councils can be involved in planning, highways, traffic, community safety, housing, street lighting, allotments, cemeteries, playing fields, community centres, litter, war memorials, seats and shelters and rights of way and many other day to day issues.
Knowlton Parish Council has qualified to hold the ‘general power of competence’ to better enable them to take on an enhanced role and allow them to do the things they have previously been unable to do under their existing powers.
